Central Heating Grants Scotland 2023
In Scotland during 2023, you can get free central heating systems through government backed grants. The criteria to qualify are all the same a the free boiler scheme except it has to be the first time your home has had a gas central heating system installed, known as a “first time central heating grant” or FTCH for short.
First time central heating grants are available for people on benefits (including pensioners), who are either homeowners or private tenants. Free central heating grants are available for homes in “off-gas” areas where funding can be granted for alternatives such as electric storage heaters or air source heat pumps.
Can I Get Free Central Heating in Scotland?
Take advantage of these ECO Energy Services free government funded ECO 4 Grants today. Find out about free central heating in Scotland and read on to see if it may be something that you can get help with through the free first-time central heating grant offered by the Scottish government’s ECO4 scheme. It will allow you to
save money instead of high bills and small savings accounts.
If you have no existing gas supply, you may qualify for a grant to install an air source heat pump and radiators. Note well that you must never have had a central heating system fitted before, even if it is not in your home now if there was one – you will not qualify. It is also important that your home is well insulated, and this or other measures must be carried out to improve your homes EPC rating, before a new central heating system is installed.
Your home needs to be well insulated before you can have central heating installed using a grant. The reason for the need for insulation is to save energy and make your new central heating more efficient by ensuring that you have limited heat loss from your new central heating system. Usually, the installer of your central heating system can help you out by installing the insulation too.
Other criteria to think about before applying are rules set down in April 2022 that to qualify for a central heating grant through ECO4 your home musty have an existing mains gas supply.

What Is A Central Heating Grant?
A central heating grant is awarded through most councils for first time gas central heating systems. The grant can include installation costs too. The ECO4 scheme
grant runs from 1 st April 2022 to 31 st March 2026 and is offered to improve yourhome’s energy efficiency.
These grants are aimed at homes that are low in efficiency and targeted to low income or vulnerable households. This is the latest scheme with ECO and the
government is using the initiative to increase energy efficiency, and especially considering homes that are or may be subjected to fuel poverty with a focus on
reducing it. The central heating grants scheme is part of the Affordable Warmth Scheme section of the Government’s ECO Scheme. This is funded by a small levy
on the electricity bills of every household in England, Scotland, and Wales.
For example, a new boiler could save you up to 30% off your energy bills and help you to save in general. Moving to gas from electric or other heating will reduce carbon emissions and as stated above provide more energy efficient homes.
How Does A Central Heating Grant Work?
The central heating grant application is a simple process and the installation and money to have the central heating fitted is provided by the Scottish government if you fit the criteria. It is aimed at people who have no heating system or an existing system with no radiators or no boiler, with other heating products such as electric heaters, fan heaters or old electric storage heaters, gas heaters, gas fires with back boilers, fossil fuel with back boilers, underfloor heating (electric), oil room heating or no heating at all.
The ECO 4 scheme is required to meet Ofgems minimum energy requirements. After the installation the retrofit assessment (RA) energy rating of your property must increase. This is in line with the following scheme measures. Property with Pre-Retrofit Assessment Energy rating of F or G before installation must increase to a rating of at least D after installation.
Properties with Pre-Retrofit Assessment Energy rating of D or E before installation must increase to a rating of at least C after installation. To meet the minimum requirement, you may need to have insulation installed.
These measures are important and once you qualify, your homes Retrofit Assessment Energy Rating is compared pre and post installation.
Just make the call and find out more and see if this is something that you can apply for. Remember that you must have no central heating system in your home, you should be a homeowner or a private tenant renting your home.
