Free Combi Boilers Available

You would assume when you are getting a brand new boiler free of charge that it would be an economy type model, however, that is not the case. In the past, ECO schemes and installers couldn’t tell you what make your free boiler was going to be, simply stating it would be a “free A rated boiler” or words to that effect. Using the funding provided by either the ECO 4 grant or the LEAP boiler scheme, Home Renewables Scotland will install a Worcester Bosch or Baxi combi boiler, two of the most premium brands available in the UK marketplace.

Worcester Combi Boiler

Worcester Bosch are the leading boiler manufacturer in the United Kingdom. Their combi boilers are one of the most premium brands available in the UK in 2023. The Worcester Bosch Greenstar range really propelled the brand, as this model provided a more affordable boiler to a greater number of households in the country, that though lower in cost, still maintained Worcester Bosch quality.

Baxi Combi Boiler

Baxi is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of boilers and domestic water heating systems. Although based throughout Europe, Baxi’s headquarters are located in the town of Warwick in the United Kingdom.

Much like Worcester, Baxi has a wide range of combi, system and heat only boilers. We almost exclusively install their combi boilers. Baxi is another leading boiler brand in the UK market, although slightly more affordable than Worcester it is by no means a “cheap boiler”.

Free Boiler Replacement Scottish Borders

Free boiler replacement grants cover the full cost of removal of your old boiler and the installation of your new replacement boiler. In some cases we replace old system boilers and dated central heating systems with a brand new combi boiler and modern system.

For oil and electric boiler replacement, we generally recommend an air source heat pump, solar panels or a switch to a gas boiler and central heating system if you have a gas meter installed in your property.

Other more common free boiler replacements are combi to combi swaps and upgrades.

Free Boiler Scheme Scottish Borders

The Scottish and UK Government’s have had free boiler schemes and other initiatives providing funding for UK homeowners running for over a decade now. The latest government grant available is the ECO 4 scheme that launched in April 2022 and is set to run until the 31st of March 2026.

The LEAP boiler scheme has a far greater chance of approval, however, the funding for this scheme runs out in June 2023. Hopefully this scheme is extended, it is best to apply now to avoid disappointment.

The UK wide ECO scheme was launched back in 2013 providing free boilers to UK homeowners on specific benefits. That offer was available in The Scottish Borders then, and just a couple of years later in 2015 the home energy and fuel poverty scheme was launched specifically for homeowners in Scotland.

Free Boiler Grant Scottish Borders

The ECO 4 grant provides funding for a wide range of products including free boilers, free central heating systems, free solar panels, free air source heat pumps, free storage heaters, free loft insulation, free underfloor insulation, free internal wall insulation, free external wall insulation, free cavity wall insulation and free room in roof insulation.

As the name suggests, the LEAP boiler grant is specifically for free boilers and central heating.

On some occasions part funding grants are available, meaning the above products will not be free, however, substantially reduced in cost.

Free Boiler For Pensioners Scottish Borders

Pensioners in Scotland are entitled to free boilers. If you are or a loved one wants to know if you qualify for a free boiler grant it’s pretty simple: In order to be eligible you must receive Pension Guarantee Credit and be over 60 years of age. If you are a pensioner (over 60 years old) living in Scotland and do not receive Pension Guarantee Credit, you may still qualify if you are in receipt of Employment Support Allowance (ESA).

All types of pension credit are accepted for funding through the LEAP boiler scheme. If you are 65 years old or over, you are almost certain to qualify for a free boiler grant regardless of what type of pension you are in receipt of.

Free Gas Boiler

Free gas boiler grants are the most common type of funding that people apply for. We can offer a simple combi to combi swap or an upgrade from an old back boiler system to a combi boiler.

A new boiler and full central heating system can be installed if it is a first time install, meaning there was no boiler or radiators in place and you already have a gas meter installed in the property before the 31st of March 2022.

Free Electric Boiler

For free electric boiler grants, we normally recommend that you install for an air source heat pump or solar panels to power your home via electricity. The other option is to switch to gas central heating. If you have a gas meter installed in your property again fitted before the 31st of March 2022, grants will normally allow for a free boiler and a full gas central heating system.

The reasons we recommend an air source heat pump, solar panels or a switch to gas is to ensure your energy bills are as low as possible. If you remind on electric, a heat pump or solar panels will make this more affordable. Electricity bills have sky rocketed in recent years, so even better yet is a switch to gas central heating.

The most important thing is that your funding is used to make your home more energy efficient and to reduce your energy bills as much as possible.

Free Oil Boiler

For free oil boiler grants, the same rules apply as when applying for a free electric boiler. Oil boilers and systems are a very dated form of heating, that can often prove more expensive to run than gas central heating. We recommend that you either power your homes electricity needs with  an air source heat pump, solar panels or switch to gas central heating. Once again, if you have a gas meter in your home that was installed before March 31st 2022, then you can qualify for free gas boiler and central heating system.

Free LPG Boiler

Free LPG boiler grants and LPG boiler replacement is available for no gas areas of Scotland again for people on benefits who are homeowners. Once again we do not replace your LPG boiler with another LPG boiler, if there is any chance that a gas meter and mains can be installed then would have a new gas central heating system installed. In most cases however, to replace your old LPG boiler we install solar panels and / or an air source heat pump as they both prove to make your home far more energy efficient. Depending how much funding you qualify for, we may install both products which work fantastically well together to cater for your homes heating and electricity demands.

Grants for social housing are limited to home insulation, first time central heating, district heating, and renewable heating such as air source heat pumps as long as its not replacing other renewable products.

What If I Don't Qualify For ECO 4 Grant?

If you don’t qualify for the ECO 4 grant and you are applying before June 2023 then you will likely still qualify for the LEAP boiler scheme. Should the funding not be continued for the LEAP boiler scheme after June 2023 there are other government scheme’s available in The Scottish Borders. Grants like the four listed below mean you can still benefit from a reduction on your bills or a grant towards the cost of energy efficiency products such as a new boiler.
